Spray, save and protect yield with See & Spray™ Gen 2
- When margins are tight and application windows are narrow, every dollar and every droplet need to work as hard as they can. John Deere’s unique portfolio of See & Spray products bring resource-saving precision to the field.
Technology evolution
- John Deere has focused on taking farmers’ applications from field level to plant level over the years. From field to broadcast, section control to ExactApply™ individual nozzle control, and now the next step – to artificial intelligence and machine learning. All See & Spray offerings work in conjunction with ExactApply nozzle control and Gen 2 is also on INC Pro machines. They use a combination of cameras and processors to detect weeds before activating only the nozzles necessary to apply a burst of herbicide to the weed, achieving a hit rate comparable to traditional broadcast spray.
Data insights
- How do you know See & Spray is doing its job? With the monitoring capabilities of John Deere Operations Center™ application and the G5Plus CommandCenter™ Display, you can track job quality and savings during and after application. These technology tools also offer weed pressure mapping, providing insights to make even better field management decisions. Weed pressure mapping only occurs when See & Spray is active during an operation.
See & Spray Premium, Ultimate, and Gen 2 machines will be able to view canopy maps in Operations Center to understand crop variability and health at the time of spraying. This layer will only be recorded when in See & Spray mode in crop (not available while fallow spraying).
NOTE: Weed pressure and canopy maps are not available with See & Spray Select
Sustainability
- Using less herbicide means using less water and creating less opportunity for drift, and that’s good for the land, water, and air that sustain us.
- Additionally, See & Spray provides even more benefits for growers looking to make the best possible decisions about weed control.
See & Spray Gen 2 benefits
- All in one solution: See & Spray Gen 2 gives customers the ability to perform all See & Spray capabilities in one solution. You choose the package that works best for your operation. No longer do you have to choose if you want Select for fallow application at night or Premium for targeted application in corn. Now you select See & Spray and choose the other options such as full boom lighting, dual product, and the type of nozzle body based on your operations needs.
- Improve weed control and reduce solution use: See & Spray technology allows you to only apply product where weeds are located in the field. This allows farmers to use those input savings in other areas of their operation, like higher costing residual programs. Spraying only where weeds are located also allows customers to use hotter tank mixes while minimizing yield loss.
- Improve job quality: Ensure the right product is applied to the right place by only applying where weeds are located in the field or giving the plant the right amount of product based on its current crop health. Ensure the highest quality job outcome with See & Spray’s Targeted Herbicide and Variable Rate capabilities.
See & Spray Select benefits
- Reduce solution use – By avoiding inefficient traditional broadcast applications and spraying only when weeds are detected, you can reduce the applied volume of herbicide by up to 77 percent.***
- Gain cost efficiency – Significantly reduce herbicide costs, make fewer tendering stops, and cover more acres in a day.
- Improve weed control – You may save enough to justify applying a different chemistry while improving your ability to manage herbicide-resistant weeds. Research has shown that weeds sprayed with complex tank mixes and more than two modes of action are 83 times less likely to develop herbicide resistance.
- Variable Rate – With an annual license, you have the ability to apply products where they are needed most at the rate that fits the green biomass detected by the cameras across the boom.
***NOTE: In tests over 75,000 acres of fallow ground, typical weed pressure of 3,000 weeds per acre, and with spray length settings of small medium, customers experienced an average herbicide savings of 77 percent compared to a traditional broadcast sprayer.
See & Spray Premium benefits
- Reduce solution use – Reduce the applied volume of herbicide by more than 50%** by avoiding inefficient traditional broadcast application in corn, cotton, and soybeans.
- Gain cost efficiency – Significant spray volume reduction means significantly lower herbicide costs, fewer tendering stops, and more acres covered in a day.
- Sustainability and stewardship – See & Spray Technology allows customers to spray only the weeds, reducing the amount of chemical applied.
- Improve weed control – You may save enough to justify applying a different chemistry while improving your ability to manage herbicide-resistant weeds.
**NOTE: Results based on internal John Deere strip trials in corn, soybeans, and cotton in Arkansas, Nebraska, and Texas, in typical growing conditions, with varying weed size, crop canopy, and field conditions, using targeted spray of non-residual herbicide only, and using current software/algorithm at time of trials. Results vary based on crop; for details see Deere.com/Premium. Individual results will vary.
Cover more acres more accurately and more consistently with ExactApply™ system
- Fertilizers and crop protection products are too expensive to waste, and seed is too valuable to risk over- or under-treating. To help make sure your solution is getting to the crop at exactly the right rate and droplet size across a wider range of speeds, look to ExactApply nozzle control system.
The heart of the ExactApply system is a six-nozzle turret with multiple modes of operation to help maintain target rate and pressure. From the cab, operators can choose:
- 15-Hz pulse-width modulation (PWM) pulses one solenoid for more consistent pressure and droplet size over a wider range of ground speeds and application rates.
- 30-Hz PWM pulses both solenoids at 15 Hz for more thorough coverage during high-volume applications, like liquid fertilizer.
- AutoSelect A/B mode automatically switches between two nozzles to maintain a constant spray pressure while you’re spraying conventionally.
- Turn compensation mode decreases the spray rate on the inside of a turn while increasing the rate on the outside, ensuring consistent application across the entire width of the boom.
- Individual nozzle control minimizes overlap by controlling spray application at the individual nozzle level, not in 2.4- to 3.35-m (8- to 11-ft) section widths.
- By maintaining a target rate and pressure over a wider range of speeds, ExactApply lets you cover up to 20 more acres per hour (based on a 3.2-km/h [2-mph] increase in operating speed) with more consistent spray deposition, saving you input costs and preserving more of your crop’s yield potential.
- New for model year 2026, John Deere is introducing ExactApply Multi-Rate which enhances our ExactApply nozzle capabilities by enabling the delivery of multiple rates across the eleven sections of the boom in a single pass, regardless of the boom length. This innovation allows for improved rate resolution, particularly while utilizing application prescriptions. Now operators can target specific zones for optimized application, which will enhance crop consistency across varying field conditions. Critical uses include tailored fertilizer for small grains and corn, based on plant and soil conditions, such as top-dressing in wheat, as well as pre or post emerge nutrients for corn.
- ExactApply Auto Select Pulsing with A+B Nozzle Switching, enables the Multi-Rate function, expanding performance and speed ranges while ensuring proper droplet size and placement. It also significantly increases the rate range during curve compensation, allowing versatile utilization across all three nozzle configurations within the eleven sections for optimal application.
- ExactApply Multi-Rate is a software update included in order code 4985- John Deere ExactApply Nozzle Control and available on model year 2026 R4023, 408R, 410R, 612R, as well as the 616R sprayers. It is also compatible with model year 2022 and forward. A+B Switching and Pulsing compatible with all ExactApply configurations.
ExactApply aftermarket attachment kits are available for 4 Series Sprayer models.
- Precision Upgrades for ExactApply are available for 400, 600, and 4 Series Sprayer models.

Precision from Load to Last Drop: John Deere Automatic Solution Control Premium with Pressure Recirculation and Product Reclaim
- With the introduction of the MY27 Sprayers, Automatic Solution Control is now in base on John Deere 400 and 600 Series Sprayers – eliminating manual solution control valves and moving fully to an electronic system.
- This update replaces manual flow control valves with electronically actuated valves, delivering a major step forward in ease of use, precision, and operational efficiency. Operators can now control loading, rinsing, and the SprayStar™ Rate Control directly from the cab or the load station, reducing time, effort, and potential for error.
- The updated system also features a simplified, standardized keypad and labeling shared across machine models – improving usability, streamlines software consistency, and training efficiency.
By removing the need for manual valve operation, Automatic Solution Control:
- Reduces operator errors during loading and cleanout
- Improves safety and chemical handling by minimizing manual interaction
- Increases accuracy and repeatability of solution control
- Improves overall productivity with faster, simpler operation
- Unlike manual systems that require the operator to periodically step out of the machine and adjust valves one at a time – often leading to missed steps or incorrect valve positions – the automated solution control with electric low rate/high rate valve system delivers precise, reliable control each time, ensuring the correct rate range is set for the best performance, delivering the right rate in the right place.
- Automatic Solution Control Premium builds on the standard system by adding a dedicated high-capacity fill pump, dramatically increasing loading speed and further improving cleanliness and chemical management.
Key advantages include:
- Significantly faster fill times, reduced from approximately 12–15 minutes down to 5–8 minutes
- Completely independent solution lines, reducing the risk of cross-contamination
- Fresh clean-water rinsing of the fill pump, solution pump, & eductor, improving cleanout effectiveness and chemical changeover confidence
- By separating the fill system from the spray system and automating the rinse system functions, the Automatic Solution control Premium configuration not only accelerates pull-on-and-go efficiency, but also raises the bar for contamination control and system cleanliness – making it ideal for operators managing multiple products, chemistries, and application windows.
- Quality of application is critical. Avoid settling in the plumbing by keeping solution in motion with pressure recirculation, coupled with product reclaim and boom air purge. These features save precious time, product, and expense when rinsing and priming the boom while switching solutions.
Cost savings
- Pressure recirculation primes the boom versus traditional boom prime where liquid tends to be sprayed out, saving 113.6 L (30 gal.) each time. If an operator does this process 10 times a day, coupled with approximately 85.2 L (22.5 gal.) of solution savings with product reclaim one to two times per day, these two features together could save up to $600* a day.
- *NOTE: Assumes 113.6 L (30 gal.) of residual product in the system at 93.5 L/ha (10 gpa) and $20 per acre 10 times per day. Adjust the calculation to suite your operation.
- Reclaim expensive crop protection solutions between applications or required service in the field with product reclaim.
- Potentially reduce crop damage from residual chemical buildup.
Performance:
- Experience uniform distribution of product across the boom.
- Reduce nozzle clogging with increased agitation of product in the solution system.
- Keep solution in suspension in the boom and system while the machine is on and not spraying with pressure recirculation. Recirculation during rinsing removes any chemical that settled out of the suspension while spraying, resulting in higher rinse water velocity in the spray pipe. Rinse water can be recirculated multiple times to further clean spray pipes and reduce cleanout times. Boom pressure recirculation mixes the solution and primes the boom before spraying to obtain a homogenous chemical mixture throughout the solution system and up to the nozzle tip. This recirculation improves spray quality and reduces time at the start of spraying.
- Product reclaim transfers chemical out of the boom plumbing into solution tanks to improve boom rinse functions, also reducing exposure when servicing nozzle bodies. Additionally, save on chemical cost and enable easier rinse water collection between rinses when operators are not spraying out of the boom in the field.
NOTE: Pressure recirculation and product reclaim kits are available to order as aftermarket upgrade kits through Parts and as Complete Goods through precision upgrade. Precision upgrades offers kits for 400, 600, and most R4 Series Sprayers while Parts offers kits for R4030-R4060 Sprayers.
